Maternity and paternity DNA testing
Maternity DNA tests are less frequently requested than paternity tests, however as with paternity testing the analysis is always more conclusive when both alleged parents are tested.
Maternity testing may be requested to back an immigration application, or when seeking to confirm the identity of a 'birth' mother of an adopted child or following an allegation that babies were switched at birth.
Paternity testing may be requested where the identity of a child’s biological father is in dispute or otherwise uncertain.
If you are thinking about undertaking a maternity or paternity test, we recommend that you seek advice from a third party such as the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), your GP, and seek legal advice.
